DESCRIPTION
Purpose:  The purpose of this lesson is for students to know the uses of technology and understand the concerns and legal aspects of using technology properly.

ESSENTIAL QUESTION(S)
  1. What ethical issues relate to technology?
  2. What types of technology are used in the workplace?
  3. Why is it important for students to know and understand these types of technology and ethical issues?
           
OBJECTIVES
1.       Students will be able to identify ethical considerations resulting from technology such as computer hacking and piracy by reviewing case studies and answering questions to a degree of mastery.  (BCS-BE-15a)
2.       Students will be able to analyze business practices and procedures involving the use of technology in the workplace by creating a chart of business technology and their uses to a degree of mastery.  (BCS-BE-15b)
3.       Students will be able to differentiate among types of business crimes by creating an anti-piracy advertisement and song to a degree of 90% accuracy.  (BCS-BE-30e)

       Students will listen to the song “Yo Ho, Yo Ho, A Pirate’s Life for Me” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3A19q7rysLs&feature=related
       Students read the lyrics to the song “A Pirate’s Life for Me” and answer the following questions on a note card.
       What do you think a pirate is?
       Do pirates exist today?  If so, how?
       Students will discuss answers as whole group.

       Day 1: Students will take notes as teacher lectures on chapter using online course material at www.coursemart.com
       Day 1:  Students will review case studies of piracy on the class blogger at http://tcooper-businessed.blogspot.com/p/pirates-life-for-me.html and post their answer to the questions listed on the classroom blog.
       Day 2:  Students will take an I-Clicker quiz at the beginning of class to see if they remember the essential questions.
       Day 2:  Students will create a chart in Inspiration or Microsoft Word showing business practices and procedures involving the use of technology in the workplace and the uses of the technologies.
       Day 3:  Students will work in groups of four (4) to create their own anti-piracy ad and song to demonstrate their understanding of business crimes.  They can use the tune to “A pirate’s Life for Me” and change the words or another tune that they like.
       Day 4:  Students will present their anti-piracy ad & song to the class.
       Day 5:  Students will take an end of chapter exam.

       Day 1:  Students will turn in a “ticket-out-the-door” note card by writing something they learned on one side of the card and a question (if applicable) on the other side of the card to show that they understand the ethical issues that relate to technology including piracy for a participation grade.
       Day 2:  Students will turn in their chart for a potential grade worth 20 points.
       Day 3:  Students will answer follow-up probes on anti-piracy issues for a participation grade.
       Day 5:  Students will turn in their Chapter 11-3 exam for a potential grade of 100 points.

       Day 1:  Students will turn in their “ticket-out-the-door” for a participation grade of 2 possible points.
       Day 2:  Students I-Clicker quiz will be worth 2 points per question for 6 possible points.
       Day 2:  Students will receive a grade of 20 possible points for their business technology chart.
       Day 3:  Students will receive a grade for participation in follow-up probes for 2 possible points.
       Participation Grade Point Scale: 2=Good Effort, 1=Some effort, 0=No effort made
FORMAL:
       Day 4:  Students will turn in their presentation of their anti-piracy ad/song and will be graded on a rubric for a grade of 20 possible points (Providing Feedback).
       Day 5:  Students will take an end of chapter exam for a grade of 100 possible points.
       5-day lesson will account for 10% of final course grade.
